Southend has two separate firework traditions and they are easy to confuse. One is the free seafront displays, fired from a barge off Southend Pier every Saturday at 7.30pm until 14 November. The other is the Big Beach Bang, a ticketed charity display and funfair at Shoeburyness East Beach on Saturday 7 November.

Updated 29 September: the council now lists every seafront display at 7.30pm, not only the first, so the 8pm October start we flagged from last season does not apply. Seven displays are left, from 3 October. Big Beach Bang tickets are still £7.

This page sets out the dates, the times and the practical trap that catches people out: the car park nearest the Big Beach Bang is scheduled to shut half an hour before the main display.

Big Beach Bang 2026: Saturday 7 November

The organiser is Southend-on-Sea Round Table 106, whose own site gives the date as Sat 7th Nov 2026, 5PM to 9PM at East Beach, with the postal address Shoebury East Beach, Shoeburyness, Southend on Sea, Essex, SS3 9AD (Southend Round Table). The council’s tourism site carries the same date and confirms under-3s go free (Visit Southend).

One ticket buys two displays. The organiser’s FAQ gives the timings precisely:

  • Gates open 5pm. The organiser asks people to arrive in good time to avoid queues.
  • Low-noise SEND display, approximately 6.30pm, running about 8 minutes. Low-noise fireworks are described as roughly 70 to 90 decibels against the 120-plus of a conventional display.
  • Main display, approximately 7.30pm, running about 18 minutes.

Alongside the fireworks there is a funfair run by Bowden Amusements, food and drink stalls, a DJ, and photographs with the mascot Sammy the Shrimp. Funfair rides are priced individually by the funfair operator and cannot be pre-booked, so budget for them separately from the entry ticket.

Tickets are on sale now, at £7, and there is only one legitimate seller

Updated 8 September 2026. They have opened since our last check. The organiser’s own ticket panel now shows a “Back To School” tier on sale at £7.00 plus a 50p booking fee, with under 3s free (Southend Round Table). One ticket covers both displays. On 4 September the same panel still read “Tickets are not on sale right now”, so this is a fresh opening, and a named early-bird tier usually means the price rises later.

The organiser’s own warning is worth repeating: southendroundtable.com is the only authorised website for Big Beach Bang tickets, and tickets are non-refundable. The event does not offer free carer tickets. Any resale listing you see elsewhere is not coming from the organiser.

Getting in: two gates, and Blackgate Road is closed to pedestrians

There are two pedestrian gates, one opposite the c2c railway station and one on George Street. The organiser states that pedestrians will not be able to enter or leave via Blackgate Road this year, which matters if that is your usual route in.

Shoeburyness station is the c2c terminus and the organiser puts it at less than a two minute walk from the site, which makes the train the easiest way in on the night.

The parking trap: East Beach car park is due to shut at 7pm

The organiser points drivers at the council car park next to the site and is blunt about it: normal council charges apply, the car park is not part of the event, and a space is not guaranteed. Blue badge holders get a designated parking area inside the event.

Here is the problem. Shoebury East Beach Car Park closes at 7pm from October to March, and so does the free Big Gunners Car Park in Shoeburyness. The council publishes both closing times as a footnote to its car park zone list: closing times are “(i) April to September 9:30pm (ii) October to March 7:00pm” (Southend-on-Sea City Council, car park zones).

The main display starts at about 7.30pm. Neither the council nor the organiser has published anything saying the gates are held open for the event. Until one of them does, assume you may not be able to drive out until the barriers are opened, or park somewhere without a gate and walk. Shoebury Common North and South carry the same 7pm winter closing time.

On price, East Beach sits in Zone 3A, where three hours is £3.80 and four is £5.20, which is less than half the central seafront rate. Our parking in Southend page has every zone tariff and the full list of free council car parks.

What to leave at home

The admission policy says do not bring fireworks, sparklers, alcohol or animals, none of which will be allowed on site. Light-up toys are sold at the event instead of sparklers. The organiser also warns that the site is a field next to the beach, so it can be muddy, and that firework ash may fall on the crowd depending on the wind.

The free seafront displays: every Saturday at 7.30pm to 14 November

The free displays are a different event, organised by the Seaside Partnership with support from local businesses and Southend BID. They are fired from a barge in the estuary just east of Southend Pier, so the whole seafront gets a view, from Sea Life Adventure along to the Genting Casino.

The season opened on Saturday 26 September. The council’s events calendar carries it as “26th September 2026 - 14th November 2026, recurs weekly on Saturday”, with the time given as 19:30, the cost as free and the location as Southend Seafront. It adds that displays may be cancelled in bad weather and points to the Seaside Partnership’s Facebook page for same-day news (Southend-on-Sea City Council, seafront fireworks). This is the 30th year of the displays.

Visit Southend lists the same eight dates as individual events (Visit Southend, seafront fireworks). Last season the October displays went at 8pm; this year the council gives 7.30pm for the whole run.

The season is delivered by the seafront businesses and partners together: Star Amusements, Kingpins, Adventure Island, Sea Life Adventure, Beaches Cafe Bar and Bistro, Southend-on-Sea City Council, Southend BID, c2c, Pebbles, The Hope Hotel, Papillon and Chinnerys.

The final Saturday, 14 November, is Christmas lights switch-on day, and the published programme for that day now names the 7.30pm seafront fireworks as its finale, after the lights go on at 6pm in Victoria Circus. See our Southend Christmas lights switch-on page.

Ignore last year’s dates on other sites. The c2c page for the displays still advertises “Every Saturday in September & October at 20:00 from 27 September to 15 November”. Those are Saturdays in 2025, not 2026: 27 September 2026 is a Sunday. The Visit Essex listing is worse, giving “every week from 28th September until 16th November” and carrying the line “Sorry, this event has passed”; that range is from an earlier season again. Treat both as stale; the council’s calendar above is the current one.

We inferred exactly this list from the shape of previous seasons on 8 September, two weeks before it was published, and every one of the eight dates has come out right.

What the season looked like last year

The 2025 season, the 29th, ran eight Saturdays: 27 September, 4, 11, 18 and 25 October at 8pm, then 1, 8 and 15 November at 7.30pm, with each display lasting about ten minutes from a barge roughly 400 metres offshore (Oracle Publications). Earlier seasons follow the same shape: the council’s 2023 bulletin advertised every Saturday from 30 September to 18 November (Southend-on-Sea City Council bulletin, 22 September 2023), and the 2022 season ran seven Saturdays from 8 October to 19 November at 7.30pm (Southend BID).

In 2022 and again in 2025 the final display of the season landed on Christmas lights switch-on day, fired at 7.30pm after the lights went on at 6pm. The 2026 switch-on is Saturday 14 November, and the published fireworks list ends on that same Saturday.

Road closures

No road closure order has been published for either event. Checked on 29 September, the council’s special events road closures page lists a single order, for the Southend 10K on 4 October (Southend-on-Sea City Council). What we will update, and when

  • Free seafront displays. All dates and the 7.30pm time are published. We will note any cancellation the council or the Seaside Partnership announces.
  • Big Beach Bang later ticket tiers. Done for the opening price: the “Back To School” tier is on sale at £7 plus 50p. We will note it if a higher tier replaces it.
  • Road closures. Expected late October, if any are made.
