Belfast City starts on 25 October, Budapest on 26 October and Edinburgh on 29 October. Lanzarote is promised for October but has no published date.

Three new easyJet routes start at London Southend Airport inside the next five weeks, and all three are on sale now. Belfast City flies first, on Sunday 25 October. Budapest follows on Monday 26 October and Edinburgh on Thursday 29 October.

A fourth route, Lanzarote, is listed for “October 2026” with no start date and no days of the week published.

Belfast and Edinburgh are the ones that change the map

Six of the eight are holiday routes. Two are not.

Belfast City and Edinburgh are the airport’s domestic services, and they are the ones that matter for anyone travelling for work or family rather than a week in the sun. Belfast City airport is the one inside the city, not Belfast International out at Aldergrove. Edinburgh runs on Thursdays and Sundays, which suits a long weekend or a Hogmanay trip but not a Monday morning meeting.

The airport describes Edinburgh on its own page as “the route you’ve all been waiting for”, and easyJet announced it back on 18 June. Belfast City was announced on 6 May (airport news). Neither has flown yet.

Lanzarote is the gap in the airport’s own information

Lanzarote’s destination page carries the line “Flights from October 2026” and nothing else. The Belfast, Budapest, Edinburgh, Rovaniemi, Lyon and Sharm El Sheikh pages all carry an exact date and a countdown clock. Lanzarote and Salzburg do not.

We are not going to fill that in with a date from anywhere else. If you are booking a Lanzarote half term, check the booking engine for the actual days rather than trusting the October promise.

The context: 30 destinations, and Munich started last week

The first easyJet flight from Southend to Munich took off on Thursday 17 September. In the airport’s own announcement, chief executive Jude Winstanley said: “We’re delighted to see the first easyJet flight to Munich take off from London Southend today.” The same release put the airport at 30 destinations this year and passenger numbers 150% up on 2024 (London Southend Airport).

On the record it keeps best, the airport is doing well. It ran 83.9% of flights within 15 minutes of schedule between April and June, the best of the 25 UK airports the Civil Aviation Authority reports on, which we checked against the CAA’s own tables in Southend Airport punctuality.

Getting there

Southend Airport has its own railway station on the Greater Anglia line to Liverpool Street, which is the point of the place. The airport puts the walk from the platform to the gate at ten minutes, and the direct train at 43 minutes from Stratford and 52 minutes from Liverpool Street.

Two things to check before you set out for a late October flight:

  • c2c is not the airport line. Greater Anglia runs to Southend Airport station via Southend Victoria. c2c serves Southend Central and Shoeburyness. Our train times guide sets out the difference.
  • Roadworks. Bellhouse Road has lost its entry from the A127 until 16 October, and the Queensway southeast slip road is shut until 2 October. Both are on the drive to the airport from the west of the city. See Southend roadworks and travel.

  • Later: Rovaniemi from 30 November, Lyon from 3 December, Salzburg some time in December, Sharm El Sheikh from 4 January 2027.
